Eggnog Makes Her Easy is a super fast, totally immersive, totally hot read set in Erin Nicholas’ Boys of the Big Easy series. This novella is Christmas flavored, and focuses on familiar face Lindsay, a fellow member of the Single Parents Group we met in the first two books in the series. Lindsay isn’t truly single, however. She’s a military wife, and her husband Matt is away, serving his country most of the time. So for all intents and purposes, she’s raising her children (mostly) alone.
Much like her husband, she faces most of her battles alone, or with her “team”, fellow members of the Group, and when she has time with her husband on leave, things stay in the celebratory/happy zone. Once again, Nicholas amazes me with how genuinely real her characters are—I have some friends and family that have served, and the challenges and choices that Lindsay and Matt faced and discussed in this book felt real, believable and honest to me.
This relatively quick story focuses on a surprise leave visit when Matt comes home to visit the family for Christmas. He surprises Lindsay at a Group Christmas Party, and that whole section is really fun, and their reunion is super sexy. One of my favorites scenes is the reunion between Matt and his sons, is very heartwarming and may require tissues, depending on the softness of your heart. I loved the relationships between these characters and the way they understand each other and respect each other. Lindsay truly loves Matt for all that he is, even though a big part of who he is takes him away from her and their children most of the time. I so admire the spouses of our military families—it is such a challenging situation, and those that choose it and live it happily amaze and astonish me. It really is inspirational. I get crabby and whiny if I don’t see my husband for three days, I cannot fathom going months! Lindsay and women like her are much stronger than I am, that’s for sure.
The love in this family, between these people, the passion..it jumped off the page and felt tangible to me. Again, for a fairly quick read, I was surprised at how much I FELT, reading this book. I really hope we get more time with Lindsay and Matt in the future. This short visit was not nearly enough time…for any of us!

Please note: This novella is part of the Boys of the Big Easy Series, and while it is a stand alone novella, and can be read without reading any other books in the series, I highly recommend you read the first 2 (and 1/2) books in the series first. A) They’re really terrific and B) This one will be more complete and fulfilling, despite it’s brevity, when you know who all the other characters are–you only meet them briefly in this novella, but when you know who they are and love them already, it adds an extra layer of greatness!
