Entertainment Etc.

Believe it or not, Disney is NOT the ONLY thing I love (although it definitely seems like that sometimes.)

This page is going to be home base for the non-Disney entertainment related stuff that I like to share.  For example, book reviews and recommendations, movie reviews and recommendations, television show reviews and recommendations, etc.

If you have a book, movie or television show you’d like to talk about, please send your review or commentary to brooke@disneycastledreaming.com–I’ll be happy to share it here.

I have fairly eclectic tastes in both books and movies; however I likely won’t bother posting my reviews here unless I really liked something.  I post a lot on Amazon and GoodReads; plenty of places to find reviews for the stuff that isn’t all that good–I’d rather stick to things I love or at least like a LOT on this site that I love so much.

I read everything from cozy mysteries to fantasy to complex murder series to romance novels to Jane Austen to Shakespeare….Harry Potter to Anne of Green Gables and Mary Poppins to Citizen Kane…and pretty much everything in between.  I’m a voracious reader…have been my whole life.  I can remember reading cereal boxes and candy wrappers as a kid if there wasn’t anything else around.  As I’ve gotten older (and busier), I’ve found I don’t read as much as I used to, so I’ve been actively trying to read, at least a little bit, every day, and have loved how much joy I’m finding in the practice.

I also read a lot of non-fiction–especially for review purposes.  A lot of self-help, craft books and cookbooks.  Again, if I think something is particularly terrific, I’ll share the reviews here in hopes that if one of you share that interest, you might find something you love.

When it comes to movies, my tastes also tend to run the gamut, although I do rather actively avoid really dark and depressing.  I’ve seen some really wonderful very dark and depressing movies, but it’s not really how I want to spend my time.  Saving Private Ryan is a really well made movie, but I’m STILL not over that first 30 minutes, and I saw that YEARS ago…and haven’t watched it since.  I’m a sensitive creature and take things to heart!

But I’m also a wife and like to make my husband happy, so often see things I normally wouldn’t choose—sometimes I’ve been very happily surprised (Quiet Place) and sometimes I’ve been miserable and he’s not gotten to choose a movie for a couple of weeks after (Transformers 2).

My favorites (of course) are Disney movies and romantic comedies, and I may have an unhealthy relationship with the Hallmark channels this time of year…but I also love Sci Fi and Action/Adventure movies.  This year’s Mission Impossible was AMAZING, and I’ve got reviews of Widows, Searching and First Man coming…Loved them all!  I love the old classics too: His Girl Friday is one of my favorites…I could talk about movies for days…maybe weeks.  Absolutely love them.  Even movies that are essentially “garbage” in the eyes of critics–if I was entertained and didn’t check my watch 15 times…I’ll likely give it a more positive review than some.

Don’t have much time for TV these days, especially with this site and trying to get my travel business going, but I am going to be talking about the Good Place…I definitely think it’s one of the best shows available on commercial television currently.  And I’d love to hear what you all are making time for.  I’m a binge watch girl…planning a big Mrs. Maisel marathon before Season 2 premieres soon….

At any rate, if you love entertainment and want to talk about it, please join in.  Post your comments below, or send me an email.

Happy Dreaming!

Brooke
