Taking it Easy

Author: Erin Nicholas

Series: Boys of the Big Easy, Book 2

Publisher: EN Fiction, September 25, 2018

Darn it, she did it again. Just when I think Erin Nicholas can’t get any better, she goes and does it. I loved the first book in this series, and I was a little concerned that there was just no way that I could possibly like the second book THAT much, because while I liked Logan in the first book (Gage’s brother), he didn’t jump out me and have me begging for his story (like I have for many of Nicholas’s other heroes). But I could not have been more wrong! She had me hooked on Logan so much, so quickly in this book…this book surprised me! Right from the first page!

This book is very hot — there are lot of really great steamy scenes that took my breath away, but honestly, my favorite scenes are the sweet. There are so many great sweet scenes in this book…and what makes them great is that they are not syrupy sweet…this is not the stomach-ache inducing sweet– this is the kind of sweet that melts your heart and your panties at the same time. It’s AMAZING.

And these kids!?! I am not usually a huge fan of the dynamics introduced by adding kids…but Nicolas won me over to her side on this with the first book in the series, Going Down Easy…and this one got me even more. These kids are terrific. I loved that Logan wasn’t fake nice or stupid nice with the kids, he was just himself and accepted them for who they were, foibles and all, and loved them. I loved watching Logan grow, and seeing that he, in many ways, was WAY more ready for the family situation than anyone was ready to give him credit for. He was so adorable and loving and just trying so hard!

Dana was a great character, so strong, so independent, so sure she didn’t need anyone else, couldn’t need anyone else…one of my favorite things about Erin Nicholas is that she writes characters that you believe in. You get to know them, and they are not perfect people. They have strengths, but they have their weaknesses too. For them to find their happy endings, they all have to grow in some way, and they have to accept some things about themselves that they may not have known or liked, and they may have to accept some things about others that they may not have known or liked…and while yes, it’s a hot romance novel and everyone is sexy and beautiful, they are also very down to earth people with jobs and bills and families and real life challenges. So, there’s enough fantasy to help you escape your reality–but enough reality to make you feel like you KNOW these characters. You WANT to hang out with them, spend time with them, you ROOT for them. I LOVED this book, and I could not be happier about it. Or more flummoxed! I don’t know WHAT I will do when the next one comes out. Goodness help me if it’s even better!

Note: This is book 2 of the Boys of the Big Easy series.  It comfortably stands on it’s own; however, I personally think your enjoyment would be enhanced if you read book 1, Going Down Easy, first.  Gavin’s story is told in Book 1, and he’s Logan’s brother; Logan played a big role in the first book–so by getting to know him there, I think you enjoy him EVEN more here.  Just my opinion, your mileage may vary.
